Difference between a Nerd and a Dork
This has always bothered me, far too often people mistakenly refer to themselves as Dorks. Well let me tell you, the average girl who studies too much may say to someone, "I study so much, I'm such a dork" WRONG. No youre not. Sure us dorks may have gotten good grades but studying is not quality known to most dorks I know. In fact the lot of us are lazy, get by with decent - good grades, doesnt really bother us to get a C for the most part. What this girl was actually referring to is a Nerd. People tend to use the terms interchangably but thats like saying a wolf is the same as a poodle, sure they may belong to the same genus but they are NOT the same. Let me break it down for you.
Nerds:
Tend to study a lot and get good grades, getting less than A's bother them
Usually Don't play video games excessively
Are for the most part Organized and neat
Wouldn't consider themselves technologically savy (unless they are studying that field)
May like to do Jiggsaw Puzzles or solve complex mathematical equations in their free time
Likes Star Trek better than Star Wars cause its more scientifically plausible
Win Spelling Bees
Dorks:
Hate studying, get decent - good grades, may get great grades but its not because they study they are just natually smart
LOVES videos games - I have a belief that the creation of Pong is where the Nerd family split into Dorks and Nerds
Messy, not organized
Love gadgets and the latest technology- would buy something from thinkgeek.com
Has a collection of some sort: Comics, cards, action figures, etc
Get irritated when people who arent dorks reffer to themselves as dorks
Likes Star Wars better than Star Trek if they had to choose
Probably watches Anime or have watched Anime
Probably has attended some kind of Comic book convention or some similar event
Enjoys watching Good Movies, probably has a disdain for The Wayans Bros.
May become depressed because they think they have read or seen everything in the world that is funny because they have seen it all on the internet
So please, take these lists into consideration. I for one am a Dork. through and through. I get mad when Nerds call themselves Dorks because they study a lot, all you girls in college studying in the Commons im talking about you! I refresh digg.com every 10 minutes. I have a t-shirt that says "Wizard is about to Die Needs Food Badly", I Design websites for a living, I read Penny Arcade, all very dorky stuff, Nerds and other non-dorks will have no idea what I'm talking about.
There is also a sub class of Dork which is often labeled a "closet Dork" which is a dork who has the ability to conceal his dorkiness enough to appear normal to the outside world. These Dorks usually are the "popular" ones amongst their dork friends as they have access to a world that most of them will only hear about.
Note: there is NO closet Nerd, If you think you are a closet Nerd, you are either a NERD or someone who is not a Nerd and just studies a lot.So that is my exposition on Nerd Vs Dork. I hope you have found it entertaining and enlightening. |
